Where river and rail cross…

In 1988, Sam Gregg and Jim Ruffing stumbled upon Hidden Valley Country Club for sale in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Jim called Sam, “Sam, let’s get those kids home”. And so it went, Sam purchased the 105 acres of land along the banks of the Chartiers Creek and the Railroad that crosses through. Daniel and Jeanne Ruffing soon moved home from their life in Lexington, Kentucky, where Dan was the Director of Golf at Griffin Gate Golf Club for Marriott Resorts. With three young kids in tow, Dan took over management of the course and began acquiring ownership of the property. Today, Frosty Valley is proud to have been a family-owned and operated golf community and course for over 35 years. We strive to provide a place of recreation and refuge to the community with an emphasis on youth development and accessibility to a diverse crowd of players.

Design

The course was originally designed by renowned architect Joseph Lee along with William and David Gordon, and Ferdinand Garbin in 1969.

Land Management

Nathan Nicholas serves as the superintendent managing the 11 holes of golf and practice area along the Chartiers Creek. Conservation of the land and wildlife that reside here stands at the core of our stewardship. We use organic pest and disease solutions whenever possible and heavily minimize pesticide and herbicide use in order to preserve wildlife habitat, create native pollinator areas, and remain active members of organizations such as the Monarchs In The Rough and The Audobon Society of Western PA. We love to talk about the land. Ask us about what we are doing or if you have suggestions on how to improve our care for this place!

Daniel R. Ruffing, PGA Member since 1983, serves as the Head PGA Professional. Today, Dan and Cody Ruffing invite you to one of the most convenient, scenic, and beloved courses in Western Pennsylvania.
